Do you require an eVisa?
🌍 General Eligibility Requirements
All travelers, including infants and children must obtain an approved eVisa before entering Kenya, unless they fall under specific exemption categories. Each individual must apply separately, and applications should be submitted at least 72 hours prior to travel. To qualify, applicants must hold a passport valid for at least six months from the date of arrival, with at least one blank page for entry and exit stamps. The eVisa is typically valid for 90 days from the date of issuance, and the final length of stay is determined by the immigration officer at the port of entry.

Applicants must upload a copy of their passport’s bio-data page, a recent passport-style photo or selfie, travel itinerary, proof of accommodation, and a valid payment method. Depending on the purpose of travel, additional documents may be required, such as an invitation letter for business or family visits, medical referrals, or conference participation letters. It’s crucial that all submitted details match the passport exactly, as errors or omissions can lead to delays or rejection. Importantly, possession of an eVisa does not guarantee entry; immigration officers retain final discretion.
🚫 Exemptions from eVisa
Certain travelers are exempt from the eVisa requirement. These include holders of Kenyan permanent residence, valid work permits, or re-entry passes. Citizens of East African Community partner states (e.g. Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda) are exempt for stays up to 180 days. Nationals from select countries, including Barbados, Botswana, Ghana, Malaysia, South Africa, and many others, may enter without an eVisa for up to 90 days. Transit passengers who remain within the airport or ship precincts, crew members listed on official manifests, and holders of UN or African Union Laissez-Passers on official duty are also exempt.
